Any hunter in Oregon under the age of 18 must have a hunter education certificate, except if he or she is hunting on private land owned by a parent or guardian, or is participating in a mentored youth hunt sponsored by the ODFW.
This option is available for those students who are 18+ in age and are residents of Oregon. Students will only need to take the online-only course to get certified. Once you have passed the course, you will be able to purchase your hunting licenses online through the ORDFW website. You will also be issued your permanent card by the state.
If you are planning on hunting game animals in Oregon you must have a hunting license. There are different types of hunting licenses depending on your residency status and the game you plan on hunting. An Oregon hunting license is issued by the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife. Note, if you plan on hunting any migratory bird you must also purchase the Federal Migratory Waterfowl Stamp.
There is a new hunter orange requirement coming into effect in August of 2011. All hunters under the age of 17 will need to wear an exterior garment of hunter orange color when hunting any mammal or upland game bird (with the exception of turkey) which offers visibility from all sides (360 degrees). This garment can be a hat, shirt, jacket, coat, vest or sweater. Orange camouflage is an acceptable pattern. Hunters 17 and over are strongly encouraged to wear hunter orange as well.
